Comparative studies on ThreeTriticum species and hordeum2 as affected by gamma irradiation

Description

Wheat grains of three species, i. e. T. monococcun, T. durum and T. aestivum as well as grain of Giza-117 barley Hordeum vulgar were irradiated with 0, 1, 2, 4, 16 or 64 krad. It could be concluded that the stimulation dosage was 1 rad for both monococcum and aestivum and 4 krad for durum., whereas, the dosage 2 krad was the promising dosage for barley (Hordeum vulgare) cv. Giza-117, in this respect. This conclusion was based on the changes in germination percentage, height of plant, number of spikes per plant, weight of spikes per plant, Yield of grains per feddan, yield of straw per feddan and weight of 1000 grains, as well as total-N, soluble-N and protein content. The higher dosage depressed progressively the aforementioned characters. (author)
