Effect of sex on the characteristics of autonomic receptors in lower urinary tract

Description

Since there are conflicting reports regarding the composition of autonomic receptors in the lower urinary tract, characteristics of adrenergic and muscarinic cholinergic receptors were investigated in six month old male and female rabbits. The authors utilized the 3H-prazosin (PZ), 3H-yohimbine (YOH), 3H-dihydroalprenolol (DHA) and 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate (QNB) to label alpha-1, alpha-2, and beta adrenergic and muscarinic receptors, respectively, in plasma membranes of bladder base, bladder dome and urethra. Saturation experiments were performed to determine K/sub D and B/sub max/ values. K/sub D/ values for each labeled ligand were similar in all examined tissues and sexes
