Piping Support stiffness constants for dynamic analysis

  • 1. Gilbert/Commonwealth, Jackson, MI

Description

This paper discusses the derivation of formulas for determining the values of stiffness constants for various typical supports used in modeling piping systems. Extended derivations, illustrated by a generic example, for calculating stiffness constants of composite supports are also included. Inclusion of support stiffness constants alters the flexibility of the piping system. However, in general, the writer conjectures the conclusion that support stiffness inclusions are not significant enough to cause major differences from the usual piping analysis with supports assumed rigid. Piping systems with rigid supports versus using stiffness constant supports are examined in dynamic problems
