Low energy spectroscopy with EXOSAT

Description

The low-energy experiment on EXOSAT includes broad-band spectrometer capability, whereas the optional imaging telescope is also equipped with a grating spectrometer which allows for intermediate resolution spectroscopy in the energy range below 1keV. The scientific return to be expected from this spectroscopic feature of the low-energy instrumentation is briefly discussed in the following cases: point sources, extended sources, interstellar medium
