Vector and tensor analyzing power measurements for the 2H(d vector,n) and 1H(d vector,n) reactions near 46 MeV

Description

In this experiment, various vector and tensor analyzing power measurements were made for neutrons from the 2H(d vector,n) and 1H(d vector,n) reactions near 45 MeV. Preliminary results and details of the experimental method have been presented in earlier progress reports. The A/sub y/ and A/sub yy/ values for the breakup neutrons from these reactions are shown. The final values for the monoenergetic neutron group from the 2H(d vector,n) 3He reaction are as follows: A/sub y/(00) = 0.00 +/- 0.02; A/sub y/(180) = 0.00 +/- 0.06; A/sub yy/(00) = 0.18 +/- 0.02; A/sub yy/(180) = 0.54 +/- 0.07. The disparity between the large A/sub yy/ values found for the 2H(d vector,n) 3He reaction and the very small values found for even the highest energy breakup neutrons is surprising and interesting
