Values in energy policy

Creators

Description

The discussion about the ethical, sociological and economic values has proved very difficult as soon as energy policy is concerned. The Finnish nuclear law is based on a term 'total benefit of society'. It means that nuclear power is subject to political appropriateness considerations. There were applied when the Finnish Parliament rejected the application for the fifth nuclear power plant in 1993. The discussion about future energy policy and the role of nuclear power has now bursted out again. It will be very interesting to see, which direction it will take. (orig.)
