Risk due to radionuclides in drinking water
Description
Estimates of risk due to radionuclides in drinking water has been evaluated. The primary risk from radionuclides is due to naturally occurring radium, uranium and radon. The average levels of occurrence of these are: 226Ra 0.3-0.8 pCi/L, 228Ra 0.4-1 pCi/L, natural uranium 0.3-2 pCi/L, 222Rn 50-300 pCi/L 210Pb < 0.11 pCi/L, 210Po < 0.13 pCi/L, 230th < 0.04 pCi/L and 232Th < 0.01 pCi/L. The estimated annual population risks (the number of fatalities per year in the US) are; 226Ra 3-60 excess cases, 228Ra 3-60 excess cases, natural uranium 1-10 excess cases, 222Rn 80-800 excess cases and 90Sr 0.2-1 excess cases
