Formation and disposal of radioactive wastes

Description

The sources of different types of radioactive wastes are listed concerning the whole fuel cycle. Though the highest amount of wastes is produced during mining, the overwhelming part of radioactivity is formed during reprocessing. The major fields of waste management including cooling, storage, transportation, concentration, solidification and disposal are discussed. The possibilities of final waste disposal are shown by examples of different countries. Other solutions of the problem are outlined. (V.N.)
