Front-end electronics: an overview

Creators

Description

Some typical front-end configurations used with cryogenic detectors are analyzed, focusing the attention to the requirements that solid state devices must fulfil for the realization of high performance read-out channels regarding noise, speed, and operating temperature. Some typical configurations used to amplify the signal of different detector types are compared. A review on the main characteristics and noise sources in Si JFETs and GaAs MESFETs as well as a brief description of recently developed high-performace front-end cryogenic preamplifiers is presented.
