Phonon dispersion relations in monoatomic superlattices: a transfer matrix theory

Description

We present a lattice dynamical theory for monoatomic superlattices consisting of alternating layers of two different materials. Using a transfer matrix method we obtain explicit the equation for dispersion of the phonon's bulk modes, including the well known result in the long wave-length limit which can be obtained by elasticity theory. An illustation is shown and its features discussed. (Author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Apresentamos uma teoria de dinamica de rede para uma super-rede monoatomica consistindo de camadas alternadas de dois diferentes materiais. Usando o metodo da matriz transferencia obtemos explicitamente a equacao da relacao de dispersao de fonos, incluindo o bem conhecido resultado do limite de grandes comprimentos de ondas como determinado pela teoria da elasticidade. Uma ilutracao e mostrada e suas caracteristicas discutidas. (Autor)
