Structure and electrical properties of grain-boundaries allowing large transport currents in high superconducting ceramics

Description

The relationships between the local electrical behaviour and the structure of grain boundaries, in MTG textured YBaCuO, have been investigated. The microprobe method combined with the technique of microcontacts, deposited by photolithography, leads to very reproducible voltage drop measurements. Longitudinal grain boundaries parallel to the texture exhibit high electrical barriers at room temperature. Cross-grain boundaries display low electrical barriers. The orientation relationships between grains, as well as the geometry of the boundary, greatly influence the electrical behaviour of boundaries. The local data could be conducive to a new texture and particularly to the improvement of the mechanical behaviour of this type of material. 8 refs.; 11 figs.; 1 tabl

Abstract (French)

Nous avons etudie les relations entre le comportement electrique local et la structure des joints de grains de materiaux polycristallins textures. Des mesures tres reproductibles de barrieres de potentiel ont ete obtenues au moyen de microelectrodes appliquees sur un reseau de microcontacts realise par photolithographie. Il apparait que les joints longitudinaux, paralleles a la texture, presentent toujours des barrieres electriques elevees a l'ambiante. Par contre, les joints transversaux se caracterisent par des barrieres faibles. Les relations d'orientation entre les grains ainsi que la geometrie du joint, jouent un role essentiel sur le comportement electrique des joints dans les materiaux YBaCuO textures. Ces donnees locales pourraient permettre de modifier la texture et en particulier d'ameliorer le comportement mecanique de ce type de materiau
