C57b1 mice underwent whole-bode irradiation at 150 R on the 6th day of life and 500 R on the 9th day or fractionated radiation exposure at 150 R on the 6th day and 350 R on the 9th day. For measuring erythropoiesis, the mice were at various times injected iron-59, and subsequently iron in plasma and blood and also iron incorporation into hemoglobin of spleen, bone marrow, liver and blood were measured. Furthermore, the amount of stem cells was examined by means of 3H-thymidine and 125J-iododesoxyuridine as precursor. The increase in stem cells in bone marrow owing to irradiation proved to be retarded in fractionated irradiation. Stem cells of new born mice are more radiation-resistent than those of adult mice. However, pre-irradiation causes the same kind of radiation sensitivity of stem cells as with adult mice. (MG)

C57b1 Maeuse erhielten eine Ganzkoerperbestrahlung mit 150 bzw. 500 R am 6. bzw. 9 Lebenstag oder eine fraktionierte Ganzkoerperbestrahlung mit 150 R am 6. und 350 R am 9. Lebenstag. Zur Messung der Erythropoese wurde den Maeusen zu verschiedenen Zeiten 59Fe injiziert und Plasmaeisen, Bluteisen sowie der Eiseneinbau in das Haem von Milz, Knochenmark, Leber und Blut gemessen. Ausserdem wurde die Anzahl der Stammzellen mit Hilfe von 3H-Thymidin und 125J-jododesoxyuridin als Precursor untersucht. Es zeigte sich, dass die Zunahme der Stammzellen im Knochenmark durch die Bestrahlung vor allem im Falle einer fraktionierten Bestrahlung verzoegert wird. Die Stammzellen neugeborener Maeuse sind strahlenresistenter als die von erwachsenen Maeusen. Eine Vorbestrahlung dagegen bewirkt eine den erwachsenen Maeusen entsprechende Strahlenempfindlichkeit der Stammzellen. (MG)Additional details
