Radiation-graft fabrication of adsorptive fibers for cesium removal

  • 1. Chiba Univ., Faculty of Engineering, Chiba (Japan)

Description

Aiming at fabrication of fibers that can adsorb radiocesium and then whose volume can be reduced easily, the author irradiates 6-nylon fibers with electron beams in the presence of anion exchange resins (VBTAC and NVP) followed by reaction with cobalt ferrocyanides. The adsorptive fibers thus made supporting selective absorbing functional group for cesium and strontium ions were examined for such performance as dynamic adsorptive capacity and adsorption isotherm. The technique can be used for cesium removal and made on an industrial basis. (S. Ohno)
