Life-time of prompt neutron generation in a research reactor with heavy water reflector

Description
Effect of reactor core shielding against the reflector thermal neutrons on the life-time of prompt neutrons generation l0 is considered. Results of computer estimates l0, performed for research reactors PIK (Gatchina) and FRM-2 (Munich) with heavy water reflectors, are presented. The life-time of prompt neutrons generation in PIK reactor equals 7.60 x 10-5 s in case of absence of shielding and 1.41 x 10-5 s by reactor core shielding. 9 refs., 1 tab
