Neutron Particle Hole Structure in 208Pb Through Isobaric Analog Resonances

Description

Neutron neutron-hole states in 208Pb were investigated by proton elastic and inelasting scattering through isobaric analog resonances. The elastic scattering data were analyzed to obtain parameters of the g1/2, d1/2, s1/2, g1/2 analog resonances in the compound nucleus 209B. With these parameters, spectroscopic factors were calculated . Excitation functions were measured for seven low-lying states and their particle hole character is discussed. Excitation energies for 71 states up to 7 MeV were determined along with quantitative information concerning their structure. Angular distributions were taken for those levels possessing an observable d1/2 particle configuration. Inelastic proton partial widths were extracted from these data and final state spins and parities are specified based on these results and the findings of other experimental observations. The expression used in the analysis of the inelastic scattering cross sections is presented . This relation is generalized to include the derivation of the polarization cross section.
