Description

This chapter examines the considerations relevant to the formulation of reliable standard specimens for thermal measurements with regard to low-density insulation. Discusses apparatus considerations, standard material considerations, and calibrated transfer specimens vs. standard reference material (SRM). Explains that the purpose of a low-density calibrated transfer specimen is to enable a user to obtain a value of thermal resistance that does not reflect a significant apparatus systematic error. Concludes that the actual details of the Calibrated Transfer Specimens and SRM programs at the National Bureau of Standards will depend on the results of research to be carried out in the next few years
