Micro-seismic monitoring: localizing rupture and gliding process in stable rock - The examples of Moosfluh above Aletsch glacier and in Ruostel above the lake of Sihl
Description
Since 2017, the large landslide Moosfluh above the Aletsch glacier along with a loosening boulder above the lake of Sihl have been monitored with micro-seismic technologies. Based on the monitoring results, the fracturing and sliding activities in the subsurface have been possible to plot in 4D. The data shows i.a. that the slide of Moosfluh reaches deeper than expected and that the micro-seismic activity is shifting to the presumed undeformed host rock. It also appears that the micro-seismic activities change with the seasons and over the years and can be correlated with weather conditions, such as snow melt, heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw cycles.
