Effect of collector plasma on measuring high-current charged particle beam current

Description
Plasma produced on the collector can effect the results of measuring parameters of heavy-current electron and ion beams (HCB) using electric transducers (shunts, Roganski coils), if electric circuit and structure of the collector are produced without regard to phenomena accompanying the production and decomposition of plasma. To investigate this effect experiments on a heavy-current pulse electron accelerator are conducted. The experiments conducted allow one to make the following conclusions: collector plasma short-circuit effect can sufficiently distort the charged particle HCB current measurements. To exclude collector plasma decomposition current effect on HCB current measurements it is necessary to use materials with low vapour elasticity as collectors, collector structure and electric circuits of measurement circuits, excluding plasma current recording. One of the possible variants of such a system for measuring HCB current is represented by Faraday cups with graphite acceptor with the height excluding 100 mm and with a current transducer
