Communal and domiciliary aspects of radiological surveys in Bulgarian higher natural background regions

Account is given of gamma background intensities observed in open air and within domiciles at a community of higher natural background. Also reported are the results of assays for contents of major naturally occurring radionuclides (uranium, radium) in foodstuffs of local produce, drinking water, building materials, as well as for the levels of these radionuclides in blood from residents. An attempt is described to assess dietary intake of the radionuclides in question and radiation doses due to external gamma-ray exposure. (author)
