Description

The various de-excitation processes occurring in multiply ionised atoms, which can be produced by the bombardment of normal atoms by high energy particles are described. It is shown that these processes can be understood by studying the x-ray and Auger satellite and hypersatellite spectra, which in turn should throw light on the electronic structure of multiply ionised atoms. The installation of pelletron machines in India has opened up new opportunities for undertaking such investigations which would greatly contribute to the knowledge of the processes occurring in such atoms. Some experimental investigations which can be carried out in this field are mentioned. (author). 40 refs., 10 figs
