Techniques for on-line coal composition measurement
- 1. Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited, Lower Hutt (New Zealand)
- 2. Coal Research Limited, Lower Hutt (New Zealand)
Description
GNS is adapting and developing gauge systems to non-invasively measure the composition of a wide range of products such as meat, wool, dairy and wood materials. GNS in collaboration with CRL is now working to develop related instrumentation to grade coal in terms of its effective atomic number (EAN). A universal EAN model has been developed for the 28 NZ coal mine samples in the study. In turn, relationships between the EAN and the water wt%, ash wt% and ash composition are being developed. Some preliminary findings are presented and discussed. This work is funded by the PGSF under Contract No.CO5803 and has a priority to reduce gauge manufacturing and capital costs.
