Description

Radiation therapy is intended to destroy or prevent the growth of tumor cells using ionizing radiation. In cancer, the cells present disordered, aggressive and uncontrollable growth, invading tissues and organs. For superficial tumors, low-penetration radiation beams in the biological tissue are used, where the radiation dose is totally released at low depth. Keloids, although not malignant tumors, are characterized by poor fibroblast formation, excess collagen accumulation in the dermis during the healing process, and tissue repair of the skin after trauma or surgical excision, resulting in a high scar. Keloids present a high rate of recurrence after their surgical removal. Betatherapy and electron therapy are radiotherapy techniques used to prevent keloid recurrence. In this study, it is intended to make a comparison between the dose distributions on the surface and the depth of the tissue irradiated with both techniques. (author)
