Study of dimerization reaction during cathodic splitting of halogen. Dimerization during reduction of butyl iodide

Description
The process of electrochemical reduction of butyl iodide in methanol in the presence of sodium methylate was studied. It was ascertained that the yield of dimer product, i. e. octane, depends essentially on the cathode material. Copper and iron (steel 3) proved the most active agents in dimerization process. Conditions (current density 0.03-0.10 A/cm2, 0 deg C, 0.005 M CH3ONa), under which octane yield amounts to 83-84% in matter, were found

Исследован процесс электрохимического восстановления иодистого бутила в метаноле в присутствии метилата натрия. Установлено, что выход димерного продукта - октана - существенно зависит от материала катода. Наиболее активными в процессе димеризации являются медь и железо (сталь-3). Найдены условия (плотность тока 0.03-0.10 А/см2, 0 град С, 0.005 М CH3ONa), при которых выход октана составляет 83-84% по веществуAdditional details
