Research in ion sources for platinum-palladium group isotope separation by electromagnetic method

Description

The two types of the sources with arc discharge and electrostatic retaining electron in plasma: the high temperature with traditional thermal evaporation and the source with the supply of the substance in the discharge by cathode atomization were investigated. The first one was meant for palladium isotope separation. The optimal constructions of the heaters are suggested, the recourse of ion source is determined. The results of two experimental palladium isotope separation are given. The possibility for application of high-temperature source of ions for platinum isotope separation is estimated. Two configurations of ion source base on cathode atomization were studied. In the former case the ion source is provides larger ion current, but limited resource, in the second case - more limited current and larger resource

Abstract (Russian)

Исследовались два типа источников с дуговым разрядом и электростатическим удержанием электронов в плазме: высокотемпературный с традиционным термическим испарением и источник с подачей вещества в разряд путем катодного распыления. Первый предназначался для разделения изотопов палладия. Предложены оптимальные конструкции нагревателей, определен ресурс ионного источника. Приведены результаты двух пробных разделений изотопов палладия. Оценена возможность применения высокотемпературного источника ионов для разделения изотопов платины. Исследованы две конфигурации источника ионов на основе катодного распыления. В первом случае источник ионов обладает большим ионным током, но ограниченным ресурсом, во втором - меньшим током и большим запасом ресурса
