Preparation and properties of the Pb/sub 1-x/Cr/sub x/Te system

Description
In order to assess the limit of CrTe solubility in PbTe and to fabricate samples with a suitable charge carrier concentration for a study of resonance states Pb/sub 1-x/Cr/sub x/Te samples were prepared by direct synthesis of the components. Their lattice constant and electrical properties as electrical conductivity, thermoelectric power, and Hall coefficient were studied as a function of composition. By comparing the results from the measured Hall carrier concentrations and dissolved impurity atoms concentrations, localized states are assumed to be present in the conduction band. (author)
