Anisotropy of molybdenum monocrystal brittleness (plasticity) at room temperature

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Fiziki Metallov

Description

Effect of orientation on the character of fracture of highly pure molybdenum monocrystals at room temperature is studied. It is shown that with change of molybdenum monocrystal orientation near the boundary of the main stereographic triangle (001)-(111)-(110) brittle fracture in chip over the plane (001) is replaced by plastic break with formation of blade-shaped edges. The found regularities of fractures are associated with change of correlation between the values of normal stresses in the plane of chips and tangential stresses in the plane of slipping
