Coulometric determination of americium based on the Am(IV)/Am(III) couple in sodium-carbonate solution

  • 1. V. I. Vernadskii Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow, USSR

Description

The proposed method of selective coulometric determination of americium based on the Am(IV)/Am(III) couple with the use of a mixed solution of sodium carbonate-bicarbonate at pH 10.0 as the electrolyte makes it possible to determine americium in the presence of curium, plutonium, and the rare-earth elements. The detection limit is 7 μg and the maximum relative standard deviation is 0.03
