Covariant soliton dynamics: Theory of P-wave solitons

Description

The author has carried out a covariant analysis of a nontopological soliton model for the structure of p-wave solitons. This model has been used previously to provide a covariant description of the nucleon, the ρ, ω and φ mesons and various vector and pseudoscalar states of the charmonium and the b-quarkonium systems. The parameters of the model were fixed by those studies; therefore for the study of p-wave solitons here are no free parameters. The calculated masses obtained are in good agreement with the experiment. Another aim of this study is to investigate the wave functions of this model for various soliton states. To this end he has developed covariant schemes to calculated the leptonic widths of vector mesons and the radiative transition rates in the heavy quarkonia. The calculation of leptonic widths yields a generalization of the Van Royen-Weisskopf formula. The results of these calculations are presented. It is observed that, in the context of this model, one-gluon exchange corrections to the wave functions are important. The formalism for covariant calculation of radiative transition rates is presented. It is a generalization of the usual nonrelativistic calculation and it automatically has all the relativistic corrections incorporated in it. He has remarked that one-gluon exchange corrections to ave functions are important. He has as yet not included such corrections in the theory of p-wave solitions and hence calculations based on this formalism have not been reported. This work is in progress
