Start-up results of the KKW-Kalkar piping

Description

The arrangement of the reactor with the primary and secondary heat transfer system of the Kalkar Nuclear Power Plant is shown. Both main systems consist of three similar loops. Each primary and secondary loop is thermally coupled by three intermediate heat exchangers (IHX). All nine IHX's are identical. The secondary sodium loops transport the heat from the intermediate heat exchangers to the steam generators (evaporators and superheaters) outside of the containment. One loop has helical-coil type steam generators and two loops have straight tube steam generators. The main piping systems have diameters of 600, 550, 300 and 250 mm while the auxiliary and other systems have dimensions of 100, 80, 50 and 25 mm. The total length of the main pipings, is 1,275 m and of the other sodium wetted systems is 7,100 m. With the sodium filling of the main circuits between Nov. 1984 and Apr. 1985 the erection period for the sodium wetted components was finished
