Analysis of alternative fuels submitted to multiple recycling in PWR reactors

  • 1. Minas Gerais Univ., Belo Horizonte, MG (Brazil). Dept. de Engenharia Nuclear

Description

Alternative fuels from reprocessing techniques with low grade decontamination characteristics have been studied aiming viability of the fissile materials recycling under the nonproliferation viewpoint. The idea is to obtain a reprocessed fuel exhibiting good neutronic and thermalhydraulic characteristics when inserted in a PWR reactor, reducing the environmental impact of burned fuel storage. This work presents an evaluation of the several fuels obtained from the nonproliferation techniques when submitted to multiple recycling, and also efforts to find the best cooling time point between recycles and their amount.
