The growth of a defect, designedly placed in a reactor vessel mockup subjected to a cyclic pressure has been numerically simulated and compared to non destructive examinations. This comparison emphasizes the necessity of taking into account the initiation phase and the residual stresses to yield a satisfactory growth prediction
