Chemical bond in subcarbides (Me2C) of 4a - 5a subgroup transition metals

Description
Clusters in the V2C structures and hypothetical subcarbides Ti2C and Zr2C are calculated. It is established that electron spectrum of the V2C energies consists of three separate zones, formed mainly by contributions of C2s, C2p and Me-spd-functions. Chemical bond is realized mainly by Me-Me-interactions. Decrease in concentration of the valent d-electrons in Me24C results in instability of subcarbides of 4a subgroup transition metals
