Study of polarization curves from AlSi12, AlSi5Mg and AlMg5 alloys due to corrosion problems in telecomunication equipment

Description

The corrosion behaviour of three aluminium based alloys (AlSi 12, AlMg5 and AlSi 5Mg) when exposed to aqueous media containing chloride is investigated; these alloys are used in the manufacturing of telecomunication equipment. Accelerated corrosion testing and salt spray tests were carried out. The results include polarization curves obtained with three kinds of aqueous solutions (the first containing only 3% NaCl and the others, 3% NaCl and small amounts of Fe 3+ and Cu2+ ions). (C.L.B.)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Estuda-se o comportamento de tres ligas de aluminio (AlSi12, AlMg5 e AlSi 5Mg) quando expostas a meios aquosos contendo cloro; estas ligas sao usadas na manufatura de equipamentos de telecomunicacao. Foram realizados testes de nevoa salina e testes de corrosao acelerada para investigar o comportamento das ligas na presenca de ambientes agressivos. Os resultados incluem curvas de polarizacao obtidas com tres tipos de solucao (a primeira contendo 3% de NaCl e as outras, 3% de NaCl e pequenas quantidades de ions Fe3+ e Cu2+). (C.L.B.)
