Hi-rep. counter-illumination fast ignition scheme fusion

  • 1. Graduate School for the Creation of New Photonics Industries, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka (Japan)

Description

A table-top fusion experiment is performed. A 4 J/0.4-ns output of an LD-pumped high-rep. laser HAMA is divided into the imploding and heating beams, which are illuminated on double deuterated polystyrene foils separated by 100 µm. Hot electrons produced by the heating pulses heat the imploded core, emitting X-ray radiations >20 eV and yielding some 103 thermal neutrons. The result shows an important step toward developing the fast-ignition scheme fusion plant. (author)
