Description

Investigation of NbBr4 molecule structure was performed in the framework of synchronous electron diffraction and mass spectrometric experiment. Synthesis of gaseous niobium tetrabromide was conducted by interaction of niobium cuttings with bromine at 496 deg C during the experiment. Models of geometrical configuration of NbBr4 molecule of C2v, C3v, D2d and Td symmetry were tested. It was established that tetrahedral model was preferable, as compared to other models. The following temperature-mean parameters of effective configuration of NbBr4 molecule were obtained: rg(Nb-Br) = 2.418(5) A, l(Nb-Br) = 0.074(2)A, rg(Br-Br) = 3.921(16)A, l(Br-Br) = 0.271 A, δ(Br-Br) = 0.027(18) A. 18 refs.; 3 figs.; 4 tabs
