Verification of role of relativity as an explanation for experimental anomaly in dynamics of MeV alpha particles in magnetized plasmas

Description

The experimental anomaly of the measured energy spectrum of fusion-produced alphas is revealed and the role of relativity is verified as an explanation by Monte Carlo and particle-in-cell simulations for the first time. Relativistic gyro-broadening resulting from a quadratic ion cyclotron instability is shown to be crucial in shaping the birth and slowed-down spectrums. This effect along with the effect of the time delay in pellet releasing and flight has led to good agreement with the experimental measurement. Both the spectral width and the peak energy agree. The reduced chi-square can be one
