Utility of a digital image enhancement system in routine mammography

Description

The authors prospectively evaluated the utility of the Damon DETECT mammography image enhancement system during the routine interpretation of 1,011 consecutive mammograms. Each image was independently viewed on the DETECT system by two radiologists to determine whether any additional clinically useful information could be gained. The system provided additional information in eight cases (0.8%). In these cases, it demonstrated microcalcifications better than routine images, although not as well as magnification images. In no case did the system reveal previously unnoticed microcalcifications or masses, and in no case did it obviate the need for magnification images
