Influence of phenols on radiation-induced oxidation of benz[a]pyrene
Description
The polluted biosphere contains numerous compounds (polycyclic arenes, phenols, pesticides, etc.) which have toxic or carcinogenic effects on living organisms. In this communication a study of the kinetics and the main products of oxidative radiolysis has been determined for a well-known representative of carcinogenic arenes, benz[a]pyrene (BP) in presence of phenols, in order to determine whether it is possible in principle to use this process as a method of removing these compounds from the environment. It should be pointed out that, according to literature data, the kinetics and mechanism of radiolysis of BP have been studied very little
