Some novel applications of neutron and X-ray sources

Description

We have developed a D-D Neutron generator for a variety of applications. At present using this generator, we have conducted preliminary work on elemental characterization for simulating explosive detection and bulk material analysis. The D-D neutron generator is having source strength of 3x107 n/s and is planned to be used as a test for bed for developing methods of elemental characterization,Tagged neutron technique, fissile material detection, neutron back scatter technique and subcritical experiments. Preliminary results of elemental analysis on a variety of samples of interest in bulk material and explosive detection simulation are presented in this paper. We also present a novel X-ray based technique called phase contrast X-ray imaging which is very useful for composites, biological specimens and for detection of micro coating of low atomic number elements. We describe below some of these developments. (author)
