Application of wire chambers in gamma astronomy

  • 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

The system of multiwire proportional chambers (MPC) and wire spark chambers (WSC) with ferrite data reading of a gamma telescope intended for recording gamma radiation in the B-100 Mev range is described. The blok diagram of the device is given. The recording part of the device has 18 WSC surrounded by scintillation anticoincidence counters. MPS are used as triggering counters. To exclude albedo particles a directed Cherenkov counter is used. The MPS performance (the choice of the gas mixture for chambers with minimum time resolution and maximum efficiency plateau length) and WSC (the reading accuracy and precision of reconstruction of particle arrival direction) are discussed
