The infleunce of X-ray on major salivary glands and their reflex on the alveolar wound healing - histologic study in rats

The purpose of this study was to analyse the reflex of the X-ray action on the salivary glands, on the alveolar wound healing. The irradiated glands probably undergo morphological and functional changes, starting the secretion of their actives principles deviated of 'normal' parameters. The groups I (control) and II (simulate) followed the normal wound healing pattern. The group III (irradiated) evidenced a delay on the reparation from the 6.th post-operative day with subsequent decrease of neoformed bone and osteoclastic activity on neoformed osseus trabeculae what was evident at the 9.th post-operative day. These findings were imputed to the endocrine action of the salivary glands and their relationship with the other internal secretion glands. (author)
