2025, a tough year for Belgium and the climate
Description
In Belgium the nuclear share in power production was 46.5 % in 2019 with 7 reactors dispatched on 2 nuclear stations: Tihange and Doel. A complete nuclear phase-out is expected by 2025 and the Belgian government supports the construction of new gas power plants to compensate the lack of flexible power sources, necessary to cope with alternative renewable energies like wind or solar energies. This energy policy is leading to a stunning situation: in 2018 Belgium produced 37% of its electricity from fossil energies and in 2030 it will be 59% while climate warming fighting imposes to reduce this share.
