Concept of the closed fuel cycle for fast reactors on the basis of pyroelectric chemical reprocessing of irradiated fuel and vibration compacting technique
Description
The main features and development trends of short closed fuel cycle for fast reactor are considered. It is pointed out that development and successful practical application of the technology for manufacturing fuel compositions and fuel elements with vibrationally compacted fuel rods give an opportunity to convert the BOR-60 reactor for utilization of the vibrationally compacted mixed fuel, to produce experimental fuel assemblies with such fuel for the BN-350 and BN-600 reactors and to initiate the activities dealing with conversion of the weapon plutonium into nuclear fuel for the BOR-60 and BN-600 reactors. In the course of these studies the pyroelectric chemical technology based on using the chemical and electro-chemical processes in molten salts for production of granulated powders of UO2, PuO2 and (U,Pu)O2 is developed. Рассмотрены основные особенности и направления разработки короткого замкнутого топливного цикла для быстрых реакторов. Отмечается, что разработка и успешное освоение технологии производства топливных материалов и твэлов с виброуплотненным сердечником позволило перевести реактор БОР-60 на смешанное виброуплотненное топливо, изготовить экспериментальные ТВС с таким топливом для реакторов БН-350 и БН-600 и приступить к конверсии оружейного плутония в ядерное топливо для реакторов БОР-60 и БН-600. В ходе этих исследований разработана пироэлектрохимическая технология, основанная на использовании химических и электрохимических процессов в солевых расплавах для производства гранулированных порошков UO2, PuO2 и (U,Pu)O2.
