Description

CIRUS reactor at Trombay has beam holes to conduct various experiments. One such beam hole E-17 was used to conduct neutron radiography and neutron-rich fission fragments spectroscopy experiment. For the purpose of carrying out the experiment a collimated beam of thermal neutron is required at the specified location of experiment. In addition shielding is designed around the experimental facility to limit the dose rates in reactor hall to acceptable limits. The analysis has been done using Monte Carlo method with a two stage approach. This paper describes shielding design, method of analysis and dose rates estimated at various locations on shield surface. (author)
