Alteration in reactor installation (in Unit 2) in the Mihama Power Station of the Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated (inquiry)
Description
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry had made safety examination on the alteration inreactor installation (in Unit 2) in the Mihama Power Station, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. MITI subsequently confirmed its safety. That is, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. possesses adequate technical capability concerning the alteration in reactor installation, and in this alteration, there is no problem in preventing hazards. MITI then made inquiry on the matter to the Nuclear Safety Commission, which acted accordingly for further examination by the Committee on Examination of Reactor Safety. The alteration is as follows. The design change in replacement fuel assemblies: The fuel assemblies of different design from the existing ones are used as replacement fuel, mixing with the latter. Burnable poison is used also in a replacement core. Heretofore, they were used only for the initial core. (J.P.N.)
