Direct simulation of emittance increasing due to Earth vibration

Description

Seismic noises in the kilohertz frequency range results in a lens vibration and growth of transverse beam emittance in large accelerators (SSC, LHC, ASR). This effect was experimentally investigated using real seismic signals of seismic meters installed in the SSC tunnel and on the earth surface. The SSC proton beam was simulated in the form of an ensemble of oscillators with betatron frequencies spread. The impact of the feedback system on the growth of emittance is studied. 3 refs., 4 figs
