Formation of comets by radiation pressure in the outer protosun. II. Dependence on the radiation-grain coupling

  • 1. Theoretical Division, T-6, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico 87545

Description

Radiation pressure from the protosun and neighboring protostars may have caused the formation of the comets. Grains feel a net radiation pressure toward the center of the protocomet dust cloud due to the absorption and backscattering of radiation by the dust. Mie scattering is used to estimate the dust-radiation coupling. The dust-radiation coupling is sufficiently strong that the comets can form within the free fall time of the outer protosun
