Thermogravimetric and XRD studies of (U0.3Pu0.7)C and (U0.3Pu0.7)O2

Description
Oxidation of (U0.3Pu0.7)C in air up to 1000℃ gives fluorite type single phase (U0.3Pu0.7)O2.15. The lattice parameter and O/M (M = U+Pu) ratio of solid solution, (U0.3Pu0.7)O2+x, prepared in a stream of gases having different oxygen potentials were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetry. The change of cubic unit cell parameter of the solid solution, (U0.3Pu0.7)O2+x, in single phase hyper-stoichiometric region (x ≥ 0) was expressed as linear equation of plutonium concentration and O/M change x as : a (Å) = 5.4704 - 0.078 y - 0.057 x.
