Description

The AAS method for boron determination in nickel-boron alloys containing 10% B and 90% Ni has been described. The method is based on the application of nitric acid for samples dissolution according to the reaction: 3NiB2 + 19HNO3 = 3H3BO3 + 6Ni(NO3)2 + 7NO + 5H2O. A Perkin-Elmer Model 503 atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with a premix chamber and 50 mm nitrous oxide head is used at wavelength of 249,7 nm and a spectral slit width of 0.7 nm. The other instrument settings are optimized according to the manufacturer's instruction. The method of standard additions is recommended for calibration. The results obtained for boron showed a relative standard deviation of 1.8-2.5%. (author)
