Nature of a cation radical in γ-irradiated N-acetyl DL-methionine as disclosed from 33S-hyperfine coupling

Description
The 33S-hyperfine tensor has been determined in a radical cation of N-acetyl DL-methionine produced by γ-irradiation at 77 K. The small s-character (3.2%) indicates that the unpaired orbital consists essentially of sulfur 3p orbitals. The intensity of the 33S satellites together with the p-character (60%) suggest strongly that the radical exists as a dimer cation. (Auth.)
